Summary
The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art Outreach Educator supports the education department by making contemporary art accessible to K-12 students throughout the state. The primary responsibilities include driving and teaching in the Art Truck, UMOCA’s traveling exhibition, and assisting with K-12 field trips weekly.
Principal Responsibilities
- Drive a retrofitted box truck to schools as far as 2 hours away
- Set up the Art Truck: Pull out and attach the ramp (20 pounds) and handrails, connect the extension cord to a power source, open and close rolling door
- Record Art Truck attendance at visits
- Teach and contextualize the content of the exhibition in an age-appropriate way for kindergarten to high school seniors
- Answer student questions and facilitate meaningful, respectful dialogue
- Maintain a wide breadth of knowledge on the exhibition What Sustains?
- Lead and assist with field trip tours (assist with teaching and creating art projects for Education Studio, contextualize exhibitions)
- Ensure students understand and follow museum etiquette on field trips for the safety of students and artworks
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an arts-related field
- Experience teaching children
- Physical ability to lift, carry, move, stand for long periods of time, sit on the ground inside Truck
- Fast learner, collaborative, and energetic
