Position Designation

Part-time, average 20 hours per week (Hours and projects assigned a minimum of 2 weeks in advance)

Summary

The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art Outreach Educator supports the education department by making contemporary art accessible to K-12 students throughout the state. The primary responsibilities include driving and teaching in the Art Truck, UMOCA’s traveling exhibition, and assisting with K-12 field trips weekly.

Principal Responsibilities

Drive a retrofitted box truck to schools as far as 2 hours away
Set up the Art Truck: Pull out and attach the ramp (20 pounds) and handrails, connect the extension cord to a power source, open and close rolling door
Record Art Truck attendance at visits
Teach and contextualize the content of the exhibition in an age-appropriate way for kindergarten to high school seniors
Answer student questions and facilitate meaningful, respectful dialogue
Maintain a wide breadth of knowledge on the exhibition What Sustains?
Lead and assist with field trip tours (assist with teaching and creating art projects for Education Studio, contextualize exhibitions)
Ensure students understand and follow museum etiquette on field trips for the safety of students and artworks

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an arts-related field
Experience teaching children
Physical ability to lift, carry, move, stand for long periods of time, sit on the ground inside Truck
Fast learner, collaborative, and energetic
