About Us
Artes Mundi is a leading visual arts organization in Wales, fostering engagement with contemporary art and facilitating discussions on pressing global issues. Our upcoming milestone event, AM10, marks our tenth biennial exhibition, celebrating two decades of groundbreaking international contemporary art in Wales. As part of this project, we are looking for an Assistant Curator of Public Programmes to collaborate with our team, develop creative avenues into the AM10 exhibition, and engage diverse audiences through a range of events.
Role Overview
The Assistant Curator will work closely with the Curator of Public Programmes, Engagement Producers, and the broader Artes Mundi team to create innovative approaches for the AM10 exhibition. This includes planning, executing, and evaluating both in-person and online tours, workshops, and events tied to the featured artworks.
Role Details
- Contract: 7 months on a freelance basis
- Fee: £10,800 for approximately 3.5 days/26 hours per week
- Support: Regular contact and collaboration with the Curator of Public Programmes, including virtual meetings and in-person discussions

Responsibilities and Skills
As the Assistant Curator of Public Programmes, you will:
- Assist in organizing and managing public events, including logistics, communication, and ticketing
- Lead guided tours, family activities, and educational programs
- Collect and analyze audience feedback to enhance the Public Programme
- Collaborate with the Curator of Public Programmes and Artes Mundi team
Essential Skills:
- Planning and coordinating creative events
- Meeting deadlines and managing projects
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Understanding of accessibility and diverse audiences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with online platforms (Zoom, Eventbrite, social media)
- Experience working with children, schools, or colleges

Regular communication via Zoom and in-person meetings will ensure a collaborative and enriching experience.
