About the Initiative
Thanks to The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s generous support, Monument Lab is excited to announce another round of our Re:Generation initiative. Re:Generation aims to foster public projects by providing financial backing. Selected teams will receive $100,000 in unrestricted funding to develop or expand public-facing ventures.

Who Can Apply
Re:Generation welcomes applications from teams of two or more collaborators. Your team can propose either a new or enhanced project in the realms of public art, public history, or public humanities. We prioritize partnering with grassroots artists, educators, organizers, researchers, and memory collectives. Our goal is to establish meaningful connections across various locations.
Focus for 2024 Round
In the 2024 Re:Generation round, we are particularly interested in projects that creatively represent erased, suppressed, or threatened narratives. We encourage initiatives that can transform local and regional narratives, especially in places where reimagining commemorative spaces can drive broader changes.
Community-Centric Approach
We acknowledge that these projects thrive within diverse contexts. Success hinges on strong roots in local communities, tailored to each location’s unique relationships, conditions, and support networks.
Diversity and Inclusion
Re:Generation seeks to form a diverse cohort of ten teams encompassing a range of commemorative practices, participatory research models, and geographic contexts. We highly value applications from underrepresented groups and regions. Selected teams will work together virtually and in person as a cohort throughout 2024. They will present projects synchronously in Fall 2024 and collaborate with Monument Lab on a broader public engagement campaign.
