Department of History of Art and Architecture
The Harvard FAS CAMLab, situated within the Department of History of Art and Architecture, is seeking an Assistant Curator. Reporting directly to the CAMLab Director, the Assistant Curator will play a crucial role in curating, installing, and de-installing lab projects, managing outreach efforts, conducting research, and programing future CAMLab projects.
Position Description
CAMLab Cave and Installations
Installation Oversight
- Ensure timely translation of project concepts into installations.
- Manage all aspects of installation and de-installation.
- Build and manage relationships with contractors.
Visitor Experience Enhancement
- Develop interpretive materials.
- Direct student engagement programs.
- Optimize visitor experience and collect feedback.
Program Development
- Generate, manage, and publicize complementary programs.
- Organize academic conferences and performances.
- Create seminars in the Cave based on project research.
Budget Management
- Collaborate on budgets for Cave installations and programs.
- Ensure projects stay within budget.
Technical Feasibility
- Serve as the contact for technical feasibility.
- Assist with fabrication and installation needs.
Research
Collaboration Identification
- Research and identify potential collaborators in fields like Art and Technology, media art, and emerging technologies.
- Engage undergraduate students in this research.
- Develop programming to initiate relationships with collaborators.
Cultural Institution Engagement
- Research and identify potential collaborators among non-Chinese cultural institutions.
- Explore partnerships with museums and universities in the U.S., Europe, and South Korea.
- Utilize research generated by the Research Group.
Collaborations
Institutional Relationships
- Proactively reach out to and manage relationships with prospective institutional collaborators.
- Host visits in CAMLab Cave.
Corporate Partnerships
- Foster relationships with corporate collaborators.
- Seek in-kind support for equipment and materials.
Academic Engagement
- Connect with Harvard colleagues, scholars, and educators.
- Engage students in CAMLab Cave projects and programs.
- Collaborate with educators to activate CAMLab projects as teaching resources.
Campus Coordination
- Act as the point of contact for campus partners regarding CAMLab programming.
Editorial/Communications
Publication Oversight
- Guide publications through the editorial process.
- Manage contributor correspondence, content calendar, editing, copyediting, design, and printing.
Website Strategy
- Conceptualize and implement an interpretive strategy for website content.
- Draft and edit website and publicity content as needed.
Grant Applications
- Contribute to grant applications.
Operations
Business Improvements
- Identify areas for improvement within CAMLab’s business operations.
- Collect leadership input to address critical areas, e.g., marketing.
Calendar Management
- Create and manage a CAMLab Cave and programming calendar.
Basic Qualifications
- A graduate degree is required, preferably in Art History.
- 3+ years of related professional work experience.

Additional Information
- This is a 12-month term position with a possibility of renewal.
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
