About the Residency Program
Discover La Nueva Fábrica’s Residency Opportunities
La Nueva Fábrica extends an invitation and welcomes applications from artists, curators, and cultural practitioners every year. In this edition of the residency open call, the 2023 Fundación Ama Amoedo Grant supports our initiative.
Application Details
- The call is OPEN, with the application deadline set for Monday, October 30, 2023, at 6 pm (Guatemala time).
Residency Focus and Eligibility
The 2024-2025 residency cycle centers around community projects and is open to Central American citizens residing and working in the region. Eligibility criteria encompass individuals:
- Experiencing vulnerability due to gender, racial, or social discrimination.
- Residing in rural, remote, or underserved areas.
- Whose first language is not Spanish
Residency Benefits
La Nueva Fábrica is dedicated to providing residents with tailored infrastructure and support for their professional development throughout their residency journey. Benefits include:
- A USD $2,000 stipend for project expenses
- Private studio accommodation at LNF
- Transportation to and from La Aurora International Airport (if applicable)
- Technical support from La Nueva Fábrica’s team
- Mentoring by a jury member or LNF team member
- Curatorial support
The residency duration varies from four to eight weeks, determined in coordination with the LNF team after selecting residents. Please note that residencies are granted to individuals or artist duos, with the option for applicants with children to apply.
Participation Expectations
Residents are encouraged to engage in all scheduled activities at La Nueva Fábrica, including openings and community events.
Airfare Responsibility
Airfare to and from Guatemala is not covered and is the responsibility of the resident.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the 2024-2025 residency cycle, applicants must:
- Be Central American citizens residing and working in the region.
- Fall into one of the following categories: vulnerable due to gender, racial, or social discrimination; residing in rural, remote, or underserved areas; or whose first language is not Spanish (e.g., q’eqchi’, tz’utujil, kaqchikel, garífuna, etc.).
- Possess an idea, preliminary project, or community project rooted in visual arts with potential community involvement.
- Commit to sharing project documentation after the on-site residency at La Nueva Fábrica.
- Be of legal age (18+ years old).
The program offers five residencies, and residents will be selected through an open call by a jury of specialists.

Submission Instructions
To apply, follow these steps:
- Download the application form.
- Complete the form with your personal data and answers.
- Alternatively, submit an audio or video recording using the form as a guide.
- Submit your application via email to info@lanuevafabrica.org with the subject: APPLICATION RESIDENCY COMMUNITY PROJECTS – YOUR FIRST NAME, LAST NAME.

- Documentation of your project in one of these formats:
- PDF document with up to 10 images of your artwork
- Up to 3 links to project documentation videos
- Descriptive text (maximum 300 words)
