Job Description
The Department of Media, Art and Design at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is searching for a professor to hold the Dorothy and Dale Thompson Missouri Professorship in Global Arts with a Museum Studies focus. We invite applications from candidates with expertise in art history or related fields, coupled with experience in museum studies and curatorial practice.
Qualifications
- Education: Ph.D. in Art History or a terminal degree in related fields.
- Experience: Demonstrated academic research success, professional curatorial experience, and the ability to teach students from diverse backgrounds.
- Specializations: Open to various related fields, including Global Studies, African and Africana Studies, American Studies, Near Eastern Studies, Visual Anthropology, and Visual Studies.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will:
- Develop new undergraduate courses to foster museum professional skills.
- Connect students with urban communities, locally and worldwide.
- Offer art history or visual studies courses, complementing existing program strengths.
- Maintain an impressive scholarly record with a national and international reputation.
- Collaborate with UMKC programs and departments, such as the Center of Digital and Public Humanities and the Department of Race, Ethnic, and Gender Studies (REGS).
- Mentor undergraduate students.
- Strengthen department collaborations with local art institutions.
- Play a pivotal role in curating the UMKC Gallery of Art.
Compensation
- Salary: Negotiable and commensurate with experience, faculty rank, scholarly activity, and international reputation.
- Full-time, benefit-eligible position.
- Endowed professorship commencing in August 2024.
