The Schinkel Pavillon, under the leadership of Nina Pohl for over a decade, has served as a unique space for contemporary art in the heart of Berlin. It has showcased outstanding exhibitions of international significance within its protected architectural gem. Our program fosters connections between emerging artists and historically influential figures, emphasizing expansive solo presentations that engage in a profound dialogue with the iconic architectural space. Since 2019, we have also been organizing the “DISAPPEARING BERLIN” series, featuring performances and concerts in endangered, iconic architectural settings.
As a growing and vibrant institution with international renown, we are seeking a Curatorial Assistant for our exhibition program as soon as possible.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the development of an innovative exhibition program and educational formats in the field of contemporary sculpture, from emerging global artists to established positions, while considering international actors and collections.
- Collaborating on the organization and execution of exhibitions with the artistic director, management, and project management.
- Independent organization of exhibition setup and dismantling in collaboration with curators, artists, and exhibition technology.
- Assistance in the development of new exhibition and educational formats, as well as accompanying program elements in coordination with the artistic director and project management.
- Supporting administrative tasks, such as contract management, accounting/auditing, procurement documentation in accordance with funding guidelines.
- Involvement in application processes, including research on artistic, historical, and social contexts.
- Writing and editing accompanying textual materials for internal and external exhibition communication.
- Assisting in the creation of loan agreements and coordinating loan traffic.
Requirements:
- You have professional experience in contemporary art, curatorial projects, educational formats, and event organization; experience in an institutional context is required.
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Art Theory, Art History, Curatorial Studies, or Cultural Studies).
- You possess good knowledge of the international and Berlin cultural landscape, especially in contemporary sculpture and fine arts.
- You are experienced in budget planning, control, and the settlement of public funding.
- You work independently, methodically, and diligently; you have organizational and communication skills and enjoy working in a team.
- Working language is German; excellent English language skills in speech and writing are desirable.
- Professional use of OSX programs, Dropbox, Office, and Adobe applications.
- Time flexibility, especially regarding the supervision of evening and weekend events.
