Discover the Culture Utopias artist residency call, a unique opportunity for artists, cultural managers, activists, and citizens from Romania, Poland, and Ukraine to reflect on Europe’s recent challenges. Jointly offered by the Gabriela Tudor Foundation (Bucharest), the Wroclaw Institute of Culture (Wroclaw), and proto produkciia (Kiev), this dual residency creates a collaborative and courageous space for change. It’s time to envision “What’s Next?” in Europe.
About Culture Utopias Residency
The Culture Utopias residency is divided into two three-week slots, focusing on different aspects of artistic collaboration:
Bucharest (I. Part) – 3 to 30 July 2024
Explore innovative ideas at AREAL, a space for choreographic development, guided by Cosmin Manolescu, a senior cultural expert and dance artist with over 20 years of experience.
Wroclaw (II. Part) – 15 August to 15 September 2024
Test and develop your concepts at the Wroclaw Institute of Culture. Curator Paulina Brelinska-Garsztka will mentor you in interdisciplinary approaches to culture and artistic research.
What’s Next? – Ukraine, 2024 (Final Presentation)
Present your final project at the end of the Wroclaw residency. If possible, showcase your work at the What’s Next? project event in Ukraine in November 2024.
Residency Themes
Explore themes such as:
- Reflecting on (post)war in Ukraine and (post)catastrophe in Europe
- Formulating “cultural utopias” for Europe’s future
- Creating safe spaces for cooperation
Who Can Apply?
We welcome courageous participants from Romania, Poland, and Ukraine, including adults, artists, cultural researchers, curators, cultural managers, activists, and individuals from diverse cultural and art backgrounds. Those with family members can apply (with an additional fee). We encourage cross-sector and participatory approaches.
What to Expect
Participants won’t need a specific project to apply, but during the residency, you’ll work on a collective art project. This residency promotes collaboration, innovation, and reflection on a post-pandemic and post-war future. It’s a chance to conduct research, engage with local communities, and foster knowledge sharing.
