Burnaway seeks Editors at Large, vital storytellers and ambassadors providing expansive, detailed, and diverse regional perspectives. The publication welcomes applicants from Houston (TX), the Caribbean, Appalachia (KY, Eastern TN, WV), and the Carolinas.
Responsibilities & Duties
Editorial
- Reporting: Editors at Large report to the Editor, working 30 hours per month.
- Location: Remote, with potential in-person meetings in Atlanta (travel support provided).
- Key Tasks:
- Identifying and commissioning writers for new content.
- Collaborating with writers and the Editor to edit and publish 2-4 pieces monthly.
- Contributing to online publications and the annual print Reader.
- Managing contributor database and editorial calendar.
- Attending necessary editorial meetings.
- Managing writer payments.
Programmatic
- Mentorship: Acting as a mentor during the annual Art Writing Incubator.
- Events: Producing two public programs, either in-person or on Instagram.
- Print Edition: Supporting public release events for the print edition in your area.
Experience & Qualifications
- Knowledge: Substantial understanding of contemporary art.
- Experience: Minimum two years in editing/writing.
- Skills:
- Proficient in project management platforms.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in English; Spanish or Haitian Creole is a plus.
- Collaborative team player.
- Commitment: Strong dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Education: No college degree required; a combination of knowledge and experience is key.
Compensation
- Type: Contracted position.
- Base Rate: $600/month.
- Additional Compensation: For mentoring, writing, and program participation.
- Duration: One year, with potential for annual extensions.
