Job Description

The Denver Art Museum is looking for a dynamic and creative Provenance Research Fellow. This position requires collaboration with curatorial departments to conduct research and documentation. The focus is on collections with incomplete ownership histories and those affected by legal and ethical considerations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research: Conduct detailed provenance research on selected areas of the Museum’s collections. Focus on collections with incomplete ownership histories and legal and ethical considerations.
  • Documentation: Fact-check, research, and document ownership history using various sources.
  • Public Engagement: Develop content for the museum’s programming and website. Deliver public presentations and support programming and outreach activities.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide training on provenance research methodology and related museum policy. Serve as a mentor during the Art Writing Incubator.
  • Professional Development: Maintain professional affiliations and attend seminars and conferences on provenance issues.

Term and Reporting

  • Duration: 2 years
  • Reporting: Senior Provenance Researcher

Qualifications

  • Education: M.A. in art history, archaeology, history, museum studies, or related field.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in provenance research and archival practices. Familiarity with legal and ethical guidelines in the museum profession.
  • Skills: Excellent administrative, analytical, research, communication, and writing skills. Proficiency in at least one foreign language preferred.

Working Environment

  • Physical Activities: Office and library settings, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs.

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $26.00-$32.40 based on experience.
