Reporting directly to the Chief Curator, the holder of this position will join the Museum’s Exhibition Service, with the main mission of planning and coordinating the production of exhibitions organized by the Serralves Museum, in close collaboration with curators, artists, and partner institutions. This involves overseeing all the processes and activities that ensure the successful execution and quality of these projects, as well as participating in the planning and implementation of the Museum’s activity program in collaboration with other Services of the Serralves Foundation.
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensure the planning, coordination, and production of exhibitions and artistic projects organized by the Serralves Museum, both nationally and internationally, as well as the proper management of technical, human, and financial resources, in conjunction with various Services of the Serralves Foundation (educational service, performing arts, financial services, etc.) and external partners (artists, curators, collectors, museums, galleries, and others).
- Follow the schedule and work plans (setup, dismantling, maintenance) of the exhibitions under your responsibility, and control their costs, in order to anticipate potential deviations and identify corrective actions that aim to comply with previously validated deadlines and budget.
- Promote regular meetings with different museum departments to present detailed project plans and timely articulate their technical needs for setup/dismantling and maintenance, equipment, and services to be contracted.
- Coordinate requests for art loans and negotiate their conditions, and liaise with the Foundation’s legal service, according to the procedures in force at the Serralves Foundation and what was agreed with the owner(s) of the artwork, for its integration into the exhibition, in close collaboration with the Registration and Conservation team.
- Provide curatorial support and research on artworks and artists, for the conception of exhibitions, as well as collaborate in the processing and editing of content associated with the exhibition programming for graphic materials (catalog, guide, wall text, artwork labels, among others), press kits, and online platforms, for dissemination in various communication supports.
- Receive and inspect artworks for the exhibitions under your responsibility, whenever necessary, and prepare conservation status reports of the artworks, to ensure their proper maintenance and conservation.
- Ensure the update of the art database, guaranteeing the introduction of all contents that allow updated consultation, in a timely manner, whenever necessary.
Profile to be Recruited: We are looking for a proactive, dynamic, and communicative person, with experience in project and team management and the ability to work in a transversal and interdisciplinary way, who meets the following conditions:
- Higher education in Fine Arts, Art History, Curatorial Studies, or similar.
- Excellent knowledge of national and international Contemporary Art.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, particularly in contemporary art museums, and with extensive experience in executing large-scale and complex projects, involving different disciplines and practices.
- Experience in projects with constructions or partnerships with architects and engineers will be valued.
- Proficiency in English, spoken and written (mandatory).
- Availability to travel, nationally and internationally.
- Availability to work in different schedules, including weekends.
- Proficiency in computer tools, namely Excel and PowerPoint.
