Introduction
Toekomstdenkers (Future Thinkers) is a call for artists, creators, and thinkers. Besiendershuis and LUX are inviting participants to explore future scenarios and solutions, particularly focusing on the climate crisis.
Program Vision
This initiative, born from the collaboration between Besiendershuis and arthouse LUX in Nijmegen, seeks to engage a creative individual. This person will immerse themselves in the city, using imagination to envision a new future for Nijmegen. The current theme is ‘the circular economy’.
The Circular Economy Theme
In a circular economy, reusing raw materials is crucial, aiming to eliminate waste. Despite government plans, achieving a sustainable, circular economy remains challenging. The city of Nijmegen strives to be a leader in this area. The residency believes that art can play a vital role in realizing this vision.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The Toekomstdenker should be:
- A creative and imaginative professional
- Focused on future-oriented thinking
- Critical, curious, and capable of materializing ideas
- Interested in ‘the circular living environment’
- Able to offer fresh perspectives on Nijmegen and its surroundings
Residency Outcome
The residency aims to produce:
- An artistic work, such as a cultural product or event
- A project that doesn’t need immediate completion post-residency
- An accessible and understandable piece for a broad audience
- A contribution to theme awareness and problem-solving
- A presentation at LUX or a suitable alternative venue
Offerings
The program offers:
- An introduction to Nijmegen before the residency
- A 2.5-month residency at Besiendershuis, April to June 2024
- The chance to create and present a special art production at LUX
- Artistic guidance and network access from LUX and Besiendershuis
- An honorarium of at least €6,000 and a budget of at least €8,000 for production and presentation
