Objective
This International Public Tender seeks a Director for the Arpad Szenes Vieira da Silva Foundation Museum, a private institution of public utility. Prospective candidates can access the Foundation’s statutes and recent activity details on www.fasvs.pt.
Director’s Role and Responsibilities
The Museum Director will oversee various services and manage daily operations, reporting to the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include:
- Developing an Annual Activities and Budget Plan for Board approval.
- Managing the execution of approved activities.
- Overseeing collection management, including acquisitions, donations, deposits, and loans.
- Representing the Foundation in technical and museology initiatives.
- Preparing quarterly reports on activities and budget.
- Presenting an annual report of activities and accounts to the Board.

Application Requirements
Candidates should submit their application in Portuguese or English, including:
- A motivation letter (max 2 pages).
- Academic and professional curriculum with a bibliography summary (max 10 pages).
- A vision for the foundation and programmatic guidelines for the next three years (max 5 pages).
- Three letters of reference.
- Consent for the use of personal data for contest purposes.
Selection Process
An independent jury, including Professor Dr. Raquel Henriques da Silva, Dr. Teresa Patrício Gouveia, and Dr. Vicente Todoli, will conduct the selection. The jury’s majority decision is final. The top three candidates will undergo an interview, either in-person or electronically, with a non-voting Board member present. Conflict of interest rules apply.
Selection Criteria
The jury will prioritize:
- Proposal quality, alignment with Foundation’s objectives, innovation, and feasibility.
- Candidate’s motivation.
- Academic and professional background, including bibliography.
- Skills in organization, management, communication, and fundraising.
Term and Start Date
The Director’s term starts on February 15, 2024, and ends on December 31, 2027, with a possible 3-year extension. A different start date may be negotiated.
Compensation and Working Conditions
The role offers a monthly salary of €3,400 plus bonuses and benefits under Portuguese law. This is a full-time position based in Lisbon.
Language Requirements
Proficiency in Portuguese or English is required. Non-Portuguese speakers must attend a language course funded by the Foundation.
Residence Support
Candidates living over 50 km from Lisbon may receive free accommodation for up to 6 months.
