Overview
The North Africa Cultural Program (NACP) | Cycle II, spanning from 2024 to 2027, targets Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia. It includes two main schemes: the National Cultural Opportunities Fund and the Regional Competitive Creativity Fund.
National Cultural Opportunities Fund
This scheme focuses on arts and culture institutions in the five targeted North African countries. It provides institutional and programmatic support, particularly to entities known for strong public programming. The aim is to enhance cultural activities both in city centers and peripheral areas.
Regional Competitive Creativity Fund
This scheme encourages partnerships between entities in North Africa and those across Africa and the Arab region. It supports collaborative projects, emphasizing existing collaborations and fostering new ones. The focus is on robust, well-thought-out partnerships.
Objectives and Support
Both funds strive to bolster independent arts and culture entities. This includes institutions, collectives, networks, and spaces. Key goals are regional partnerships, engaging young audiences, and extending reach to remote areas. NACP also offers capacity-building, training, and mentorship to supported organizations and projects.
Previous Achievements
In its first cycle (2019-2023), NACP awarded 40 grants. It supported 28 organizations with institutional and programmatic assistance and funded 12 collaborative projects in North Africa. The program also provided a range of technical and professional support.
Additional Information
Eligibility requirements for each support scheme are available in the FAQ section.
Background
NACP emerged from a successful international bid by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, which AFAC won in mid-2018. The program fulfills both AFAC’s and the Swiss Agency’s aspirations. It focuses on reinforcing AFAC’s presence in North Africa, promoting distribution and circulation, and providing institutional support. The NACP program embraces diverse cultural expressions without thematic or artistic constraints.
