Context:
Within the framework of the Partnership Agreement between EGEAC and the Julião Sarmento Association, which establishes the deposit for 5 years of Julião Sarmento’s private collection at the Blue Pavilion (on Av. da Índia, in Belém), EGEAC is currently starting the installation of a new Arts Center that aims to assert itself as a differentiating place in the context of the cultural and artistic offer of the city of Lisbon.
With the opening scheduled for the end of 2024, the Blue Pavilion, currently undergoing adaptation and renovation works, will dedicate itself to the organization and presentation of exhibitions, activities, and events in the fields of contemporary art and culture, of national and international character, using various means and contemporary artistic languages, such as painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, photography, video, and printmaking.
The Arts Center – Blue Pavilion, which favors contemporary artistic production, is part of a typology of facilities between small and medium size, with c. 700 m2 of exhibition area, with spatial, technical, and programmatic conditions that allow its integration into the international circuit of Arts Centers. This type of equipment, in recent decades, has been constituting an alternative to traditional museological spaces, asserting other programmatic perspectives in urban and cosmopolitan contexts.
The Julião Sarmento Collection consists of a collection of about 1200 works by national and international artists that spans different generations, with the presence of various techniques from painting to drawing, sculpture, video, and installations.
Candidate Profile:
Higher Education in the fields of Fine Arts, Art History, Philosophy, or other Humanities or Social Sciences, with a focus on artistic studies; Nationally and internationally recognized Curatorial experience; Experience in directing Cultural Institutions dedicated to Contemporary Art, or relevant departments of these institutions, with a strategic vision translated into an ambitious national and international program; Experience in the design and development of artistic programs and projects in the field of contemporary art; Deep knowledge of the Portuguese artistic milieu, both creatively and institutionally; Published work in the field of art essays; Knowledge of Julião Sarmento’s work and his collection. Functions:
Define, in collaboration with the Board of Directors and executive team, the cultural facility’s strategy as well as its artistic and institutional mission and objectives; Develop, submit for approval, execute, and control, in collaboration with the cultural facility’s executive team, the activity plan and budget of the cultural facility; Define the programming, adapting it to the human resources and technical capacities of the cultural facility, as well as to the existing legal and budgetary limits; Cooperate with the executive team in coordinating the organization of the cultural facility, namely the areas responsible for executing the programming, and devising an accessibility and audience development strategy appropriate to the mission and objectives of the cultural facility; Ensure that the artistic activity in the cultural facility complies with the applicable legal and regulatory requirements (namely with the Public Procurement rules); Institutionally represent the cultural facility, in coordination with the facility’s executive team and the Board of Directors of EGEAC. Contractual Conditions:
Contract: service commission regime for a period of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal; Basic monthly remuneration: €2,864.74 (two thousand, eight hundred sixty-four euros and seventy-four cents) plus a special remuneration for exemption from schedule in the amount of €1,145.90 (one thousand one hundred forty-five euros and ninety cents); Start of functions: May 2024; Location: Blue Pavilion (building no. 172, Av. da Índia) from the moment it is ready to host the Arts Center team.
