A new sales calendar for 2024 will merge separate auction specialties, coinciding with the grand opening of the new Paris headquarters.
Role Overview
The role involves sourcing and selling contemporary art for Sotheby’s France. The Senior Specialist will work closely with a global network to develop business and ensure successful sales. This position emphasizes client and business development to meet financial goals.
Responsibilities
- Source works for Contemporary and Modern France sales, seeking consignment opportunities.
- Independently secure business, possibly involving overseas travel, and collaborate with EMEA specialists.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of Contemporary sales in France, ensuring high-quality research and cataloging.
- Oversee consignment costs, aiming to meet profit and sales targets.
- Offer expertise in object scholarship, client service, and meeting sale deadlines.
- Drive client development to build loyalty and generate new business.
- Support sales through client engagement, tracking interest, and executing bids.
- Mentor junior staff to promote their development.
- Evaluate client property for valuations and proposals.
- Achieve individual consignment and sales targets.
- Maintain high levels of client service and adhere to compliance and governance standards.
Ideal Experience & Competencies
- Minimum 8 years of experience in contemporary art sales, preferably in auction houses, galleries, or private dealerships.
- Proven ability to manage high-level client relationships and solve problems sensitively.
- Strong business and valuation skills, with thorough knowledge of auction processes.
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team, with a willingness to assist in various tasks.
- Effective under pressure, with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proficiency in English and other European languages being advantageous.
- High integrity and adherence to legal and corporate governance frameworks.
