Overview
The Jamaica Art Society (JAS) and Contemporary And (C&) are hosting a three-day Critical Writing Workshop. It targets emerging art critics in Kingston, Jamaica. The event will occur at The National Gallery of Jamaica from April 11 to April 13, 2024.
Workshop Goals
- Share knowledge and experience among participants
- Explore arts reporting and critical writing
- Teach how to write reviews, comments, and essays efficiently
- Guide on pitching topics to media
- Offer editing insights
- Connect with a network for potential publication opportunities
Deadline
Submit applications by March 11, 2024.
Tutors
Seph Rodney, PhD, a noted critic and author, brings his vast experience from Hyperallergic, major news outlets, and podcasts. He’s a recipient of prestigious awards like the Rabkin Arts Journalism Prize and the Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant.
Annie Paul, a distinguished editor and writer, has contributed to international journals and magazines. She’s actively involved with the National Gallery of Jamaica and has a rich background in art and culture publication.

Candidates must send a CV, a motivation letter or a writing sample (max 1000 words) to info@contemporaryand.com. Only 20 applicants will be selected.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should:
- Have initial experience in journalistic/writing in the cultural field
- Focus on visual arts
- Be proficient in English
