Since 1986, Contemporary at Blue Star, a nonprofit organization, has showcased innovative contemporary exhibitions and art education programs. These initiatives foster conversation, cultural understanding, and artist expression. The organization seeks a full-time manager to engage diverse audiences through dynamic art education initiatives.
Role Overview
The Education and Public Programs Manager will creatively engage audiences, from school-age youth to adults. This role demands enthusiasm for the exhibitions and programs, professional conduct, passion, and a positive attitude. The manager will work closely with the Curator, Exhibitions Director, and education staff. They aim to provide equitable access to arts education and represent the museum publicly.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute art education programs that connect participants with contemporary art.
- Expand audience participation by developing public programs like artist talks and workshops.
- Manage longstanding education programs and foster partnerships with educational institutions.
- Develop onsite programming for the Contemporary Education Space and Art Learning Lab.
- Engage in community partnerships to extend program reach.
- Oversee the Internship Program and coordinate volunteer opportunities.
- Track and evaluate program success using quantitative and qualitative methods.
- Promote art education and advocate for artists in the community.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in art education, preferably in a museum or contemporary art setting.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
- Experience managing staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Spanish proficiency is a plus.
- High level of professionalism and ability to work collaboratively.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications and Adobe Creative Suite.
Additional Information
This is a full-time, exempt position, requiring occasional after-hours work. The salary is $55,000, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid holidays, and a 401(k) plan.
