About ZK/U Berlin
ZK/U Berlin stands as an independent hub for art and culture nestled in a historical freight yard amidst a public city garden. Since its inception in 2012, this artist collective-driven institution has emerged as a pivotal space for projects, exhibitions, and events, contributing significantly to discussions in art and urban development while fostering community bonds and devising interdisciplinary urban solutions.
Residency Program Insights
The ZK/U residency program connects global artists and researchers exploring urban phenomena. Offering two- to six-month residencies, it encourages a melding of conceptual art and interventionist practices with disciplines like urban studies and anthropology. Residents engage in communal dinners and bi-monthly OPENHAUS events, sharing their creative processes with the public.
Internship Roles and Responsibilities
Administrative Support
- Facilitate the Artist-in-Residence program’s administrative needs.
- Manage room and studio assignments.
- Coordinate resident arrivals and departures.
- Assist in organizing and managing residency events, including OPENHAUS.
- Maintain event equipment inventory using Booqable software.
- Perform general office tasks.
- Collaborate on improving operational structures.
Artist Support
- Offer direct assistance to resident artists.
- Facilitate studio visits and networking opportunities.
- Organize group activities like exhibition outings.
- Contribute to the residency program’s development.
Communication
- Enhance residency visibility in collaboration with the communications team.
- Contribute to website and social media content.
- Design print materials.
- Prepare the weekly newsletter, highlighting ZK/U and resident activities.
Candidate Requirements
- Proficiency in English.
- Background in cultural management or related fields.
- Independent work ethic.

- Proficiency in Office software.
- Internship funding through programs like Leonardo, Erasmus+, etc., or as part of academic requirements.
