Introduction

Kenyon College’s Graham Gund Gallery is looking for a skilled Exhibition and Collection Preparator. This full-time position is vital for supporting the gallery’s rotating exhibition programs and future growth.

Position Overview

The selected candidate will work closely with the gallery’s team, including the Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs and Education, Exhibitions and Collections Registrar, and various experts. This role requires active collaboration, excellent art handling skills, and a deep understanding of museum pedagogies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe and efficient handling, movement, and installation of artworks.
  • Conduct regular maintenance, cleaning, and monitoring of the gallery’s collection.
  • Collaborate with the curatorial team to plan and prepare for exhibitions.
  • Manage project planning and execution with minimal supervision.
  • Serve as a point of reference for art handling and storage best practices.
  • Engage with student interns to model best practices and facilitate learning.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in art handling, installation, and mounting of diverse artworks.
  • Knowledge of art installation materials, techniques, and conservation principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and ability to work within a budget.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including museum database and exhibition design software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History, Studio Art, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a professional arts or historical organization.

Physical Requirements

The role involves significant physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, and climbing. The candidate must be able to work in various environmental conditions.
