Position Description
The Curator will lead in the area of museological and curatorial practices at McIntosh Gallery. The role includes managing collections, exhibitions, programming, access, and sustainability. It involves both special projects and general curatorial duties such as research, developing exhibitions, and public interaction.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with gallery staff and external groups to audit and develop the collection.
- Lead de-colonizing initiatives and inclusion efforts for various communities.
- Address goals set by national and international rights declarations.
- Manage collection strategies, documentation, and exhibitions.
- Propose collection realignments and strategies for acquisitions.
- Handle inquiries and oversee grant applications and publications.
- Participate in designing and implementing exhibition programs that include diverse narratives.
- Develop programs to enhance community engagement and accessibility.
General Duties
- Monitor trends, manage projects, and handle budgets.
- Build relationships with stakeholders to support strategic goals.
- Provide training and develop content for media and public engagement.
Qualifications
Education:
- Master’s Degree in Art History, Visual Culture, Museum Studies, Curatorial Practice, or a related field.
Experience:
- Two years of experience in a public art gallery with duties related to collections and curation.
- Proven ability to conduct independent research and manage diverse teams.
Skills:
- Knowledge of decolonizing gallery practices and contemporary art.
- Excellent communication, project management, and computer skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and travel as needed. A valid driver’s license is required.
