Stanford University, a world-renowned academic institution, is offering a full-time, three-year fixed-term role as a Curatorial Fellow for Photography at the Cantor Arts Center. This position starts in September 2024 and offers a hybrid work arrangement.

Role Description

The Cantor Arts Center invites applications for a Curatorial Fellow to engage with the Capital Group Foundation Photography Collection. The fellow will focus on producing innovative research and organizing an exhibition that explores new narratives in twentieth-century American photography. This role includes cataloging, research, exhibition planning, and program development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on major exhibitions and potentially manage smaller exhibitions independently.
  • Develop educational programs such as lectures and symposia.
  • Assist with the rotation and display of collections in permanent galleries.
  • Handle registration records and review educational and collection materials.
  • Support collaborative projects and assist in educational material preparation.
  • Ensure proper care of the collections.

Candidate Requirements

  • Master’s degree with two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PhD is preferred.
  • Expertise in the history of photography, particularly twentieth-century American photography.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct original research and engage with scholarly and public audiences.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and art management software.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively and participate in community outreach.
