About The Lock-Up
The Lock-Up is a dynamic contemporary arts space based on the east coast of NSW, Australia. Located in an 1800s Police lockup, it fosters critical dialogue and supports Australian artists. It offers a platform for creating new works, experimenting, and engaging audiences. The organization is committed to exploring contemporary social issues through artist-led projects.
About the Role
Position: Curator
Key Responsibilities:
- Program and curate six major exhibitions annually.
- Manage installation and de-installation of exhibitions and events.
- Develop and manage artists’ talks, film, dance, theatre, and music performances.
- Oversee the nationally acclaimed Artist in Residence Program.
- Develop key stakeholder relationships, including The Lock-Up’s Patrons Program.
- Coordinate contractors, casual staff, and volunteers.
- Manage national and local marketing material/programs.
- Handle administration, communications, website, and newsletters.
- Ensure community engagement within the historic precinct.
Requirements
Key Selection Criteria:
- Deep understanding of contemporary art within the Australian visual arts sector.
- Experience collaborating with artists to develop new commissions and exhibit their work.
- Proficiency in coordinating annual art exhibition schedules and broader programming.
- Proven track record in event management, staff coordination, and meeting deadlines.
- Experience in producing business, marketing, and exhibition materials, and managing a website.
Desired Profile
A dynamic and motivated individual with experience in a similar role within a small to medium-sized arts organization. Qualifications in fine arts/cultural studies and strong organizational skills are essential. Passion for building connections and long-term relationships within the arts community is a priority.
