JOB DETAILS
The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas (NAGB) is seeking an outstanding candidate to lead this high-functioning institution. The Executive Director (ED) is the Chief Executive of the NAGB, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. The ED works with the Chairman and Board Committees to coordinate overall governance and oversight. As the public face of the NAGB, the ED collaborates with government entities, cultural institutions, regional and international organizations, and major donors. The ED also directs the NAGB’s development and fundraising efforts.
The ED is responsible for communicating and promoting the NAGB’s mission, overseeing strategic plans, and guiding department heads. The ED inspires confidence and support from NAGB staff and stakeholders to help the institution grow.
The ED oversees a team of approximately 20 full-time and 5 part-time staff, managing a senior leadership team of five with an annual budget of $1.3 million.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
- Lead board members, staff, and stakeholders in strategic plan development and implementation.
- Provide creative leadership to all NAGB departments in planning and managing programs, operations, and facilities.
- Develop and maintain standards for program development.
- Support the development of Bahamian art and artists.
- Cultivate and expand the NAGB’s audience.
- Develop the NAGB’s Acquisitions Policy and manage fine art acquisitions.
Corporate Governance
- Attend Board meetings and support the Board.
- Ensure timely and accurate report submission to the Board.
- Perform duties assigned by the Board.
Development & External Communications
- Lead the NAGB’s development and fundraising efforts.
- Develop and drive donor cultivation strategies.
- Establish a framework for donor stewardship.
- Cultivate and solicit donors, grants, and sponsorships.
- Broaden the NAGB’s philanthropic base and revenue-generating capacity.
- Serve as the public face and spokesperson for the NAGB.
- Oversee public relations programs and deepen stakeholder engagement.
Strategic Industry & Community Partnerships
- Strengthen strategic private sector partnerships.
- Develop joint programs with the University of the Bahamas and other agencies.
- Collaborate with Directors of other national cultural institutions.
- Establish partnerships with community-based organizations for public access.

Experience:
- Strong academic background with at least a Master’s Degree (PhD preferred) in a related field.
- At least five years of Executive Management experience in a non-profit, academic, or cultural institution.
