Overview
Oversee the management of Image Rights and Reproductions at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM).
Responsibilities
- Manage Rights and Reproductions policies to prevent copyright infringement.
- Process internal and external image requests, obtaining curatorial approval as needed.
- Maintain the SAM photo archive for SAM-owned objects and gallery installations.
- Manage copyright ownership and license agreements, advising on legal responsibilities.
- Expand revenue through third-party licensing and revise fee structures.
- Handle inquiries and permissions for distributing images.
- Coordinate and process photographic services with outside vendors.
- Assist staff in locating suitable images for special projects.
- Supervise volunteers and interns.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History or related field.
- 3+ years of relevant administrative experience.
- Knowledge of U.S. copyright law, photography, and archival procedures.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, FileMaker Pro, and TMS.
- Strong organizational, management, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent relationship-building and supervisory skills.
Working Conditions
- Climate-controlled environment with occasional work at indoor and outdoor events.
- Balance of desk work and moving around work areas.
- Effective communication with donors, members, the public, and co-workers required.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
Physical Activities
- Sitting, standing, and walking.
- Clear diction and acute hearing.
- Stooping and kneeling for file access.
- Good manual dexterity for computer use and handling paperwork.
