Establishment and Opportunity

Umoona Arts, founded in 2020, aims to nurture, develop, and honor the talents of local Aboriginal artists in Coober Pedy, South Australia. As we finally secure a permanent location this year, we seek a dedicated fine arts professional to serve as our inaugural Art Centre Manager.

Role Description

The role of Umoona Art Centre Manager presents a unique opportunity for individuals with extensive expertise in fine arts and business management. You will spearhead efforts to cultivate economic opportunities for a community of 20 emerging artists, including notable figures like George Cooley, Pearl Austin, and Joanna O’Toole. Reporting directly to the board of directors representing our artist members, you will oversee all facets of art center operations, including operational management, governance, artistic development, financial management, sales and marketing, and human resources.

Qualifications and Expectations

We seek an experienced, highly organized, and proactive arts professional with a demonstrated track record of successful business leadership and a deep understanding of Australian Indigenous art. Collaboration with the board of directors, artsworkers, and artists will be central to your role, requiring a commitment to principles of self-determination and best practice governance in realizing the strategic vision of the Elders. The ideal candidate will possess a keen respect and understanding of cross-cultural environments and contemporary Aboriginal art. Superior communication and listening skills are imperative for success in this role. Previous experience in a similar capacity will be highly valued.
