Job Opening: Assistant Curator
Para Site is looking for an Assistant Curator to join the team. This role involves working closely with the Curatorial and Exhibition team to produce on-site and travelling exhibitions, public programs, special events, and publications. The successful candidate will have a deep passion and knowledge of contemporary visual culture and values an independent art space. They must exhibit outstanding attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a passion for collaborative projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage project budgets and schedules as part of the curatorial team.
- Lead or support research, planning, production, new commissions, and project execution.
- Manage educational initiatives in collaboration with external organizations and the internal curatorial team.
- Plan public programs such as talks, workshops, screenings, and performances.
- Engage with the local community, developing strategies to connect with diverse audiences.
- Write interpretative texts for exhibitions and prepare promotional materials with the Communications Manager.
- Monitor and maintain budgets for educational and public programs, publications, and archiving.
- Coordinate transport and administer artwork loans for exhibitions.
- Assist in organizing transport and insurance for the annual fundraising gala and benefit auction.
- Identify potential funding opportunities and assist in writing proposals and grant applications.
- Train and coordinate Project Coordinators, interns, and contractors.
- Propose exhibition ideas and conceive original programs under the guidance of the Executive Director and Curator.
Requirements
- Four-year university degree in art history, architecture, literature, history, or a related field.
- High proficiency in spoken and written Chinese and English (Cantonese preferred, Mandarin a bonus).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in arts administration.
- Project management experience with a proven ability to plan and execute projects from start to finish.
- Creative, proactive, self-motivated, with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
- Attention to detail, high level of accuracy, and good problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of contemporary artistic practices and general affairs discourses.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Apple iOS, Google Suite, and Adobe Photoshop.
- Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
Working Hours
- Five full days a week, Monday to Friday, 11am–7pm.
- Additional events on weekday evenings and weekends as necessary.
