Opportunity Details
Position: Gallery Assistant
Location: New York, NY
Salary: $50k
Schedule:
- Regular: Tuesday-Saturday during the year
- Summer: Monday-Friday
Hours:
- Regular: 9:45 AM-6:15 PM
- Tuesdays: 9:15 AM-6:15 PM
- Additional hours for openings/events as needed
Responsibilities
- Greet clients and visitors professionally, answering questions about art, artists, and the gallery.
- Represent the gallery as the first point of contact for clients, artists, and visitors.
- Liaise with the Sales team to ensure a seamless client experience.
- Maintain the front desk area and exhibition materials.
- Prepare materials for client viewings and mailings.
- Field and direct incoming phone calls.
- Prepare and update price lists for exhibitions.
- Manage gallery and staff calendars.
- Handle shipping and receiving of mail and packages.
- Maintain office and kitchen supplies.
- Support the Sales Team with administrative tasks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History or a related field.
- Previous experience as a Gallery Assistant.
- Warm and professional guest and client interaction.
- Strong commitment to artists and the gallery’s artistic program.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Calm and poised under pressure.
- Willingness to assist beyond job description.
- Genuine enthusiasm for a commercial art gallery environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive, team player attitude.
