General Information
Artists and cultural actors at risk can temporarily stay and work in Germany with the support of a host cultural organization. This opportunity is made possible through funding from the Martin Roth Initiative (MRI). The funding is provided in collaboration between the artists and the host organizations, including a monthly stipend and financial resources for artistic or cultural work.
Important: This is not an emergency program and cannot provide immediate support or expedite processes.
Eligibility Criteria
Scholarship Eligibility
- Artists and cultural actors globally who:
- Advocate for an open society, freedom, peace, and democracy through their work.
- Face restrictions or threats due to their work or other circumstances.
- Are still active in their countries of origin, have recently left (after 15/04/2024), or are unsafe in their current locations.
- Lack a safe abode.
- Possess necessary language skills to collaborate with a host institution.
- Are demonstrably active in the arts or culture with proven relevance.
Note: All criteria must be met to qualify. MRI does not assist in finding host organizations.
Host Organization Eligibility
- Must be cultural institutions or socially relevant organizations based in Germany, such as museums, theaters, or festivals.
Application Process
- Application Platform: The application must be submitted jointly by the artists and the host organizations.
- Consultation for Host Organizations: Available upon request.
