Overview
Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) is a prominent academic institution focused on the arts, with the authority to award doctoral and post-doctoral degrees. With around 1,000 students in various art disciplines, it stands as one of Germany’s largest art colleges. HBK Braunschweig offers annual artistic and curatorial stipends through the “Braunschweig Projects” program, funded by the state of Lower Saxony. Applications are now open for the curator scholarship starting on 1 April 2025.
Scholarship Goals
The fellowship aims to enrich curatorial practice at HBK by developing and realizing a curatorial concept for the final exhibition of the Braunschweig Projects artistic fellows. The curator will participate in the jury meeting to select the artistic fellows and work closely with the chosen artists.
Additionally, the scholarship supports the development of a curatorial project based on the applicant’s previous work. Ideally, this project should connect to a museum, collection, scientific institution, or cultural institution in Lower Saxony. The project draft should cover research, preparation, implementation, budgeting, communication, and possibly an educational or accompanying program.
Fellowship Details
The scholarship provides €1,400 per month over 12 months, along with a fully equipped workplace at the university. On-site presence is expected for at least one week per month. Additional support includes a project cost subsidy of up to €4,000 and a travel budget of €2,000. The opportunity to enhance teaching skills through a separately remunerated teaching assignment is available, and applicants may include a seminar proposal with their application. The scholarship starts on 01/04/2025. Housing in Braunschweig is not provided.
