The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, Florence, (Italy)
Fifteen residential fellowships are available annually for postdoctoral research on the Italian Renaissance, broadly defined to include the 14th to 17th centuries and the transnational exchanges between Italy and other cultures (e.g., Latin American, Mediterranean, African, and Asian). The fellowship provides 12 months of focused research time with access to Harvard’s Biblioteca Berenson and other scholarly resources in Florence. Fellows will also participate in seminars, workshops, and cultural events organized by I Tatti.
Eligibility
Applicants must hold a PhD (awarded between January 1, 2014, and September 1, 2024) in fields such as art, architecture, history, literature, material culture, music, and more. They must demonstrate proficiency in either English or Italian and be able to conduct research based primarily in Florence. Preference is given to candidates at the early stages of their academic career or those reworking significant aspects of their dissertation.
One fellowship is specifically reserved for scholars working on Franco-Italian Renaissance topics, residing in France, or holding French citizenship. Candidates should specify their eligibility for this in the application.
Terms
The fellowship year runs from July 1 to June 30. Fellows must reside in Florence and actively engage with I Tatti’s intellectual community. The grant includes $65,000 and a supplement for relocation costs. Housing on the I Tatti property is offered rent-free, though utility charges apply. If housing is unavailable, a subsidy is provided for external rental costs.
Application Deadline:
October 15, 2024. Applications must be submitted electronically in either English or Italian.
