The Walker Art Center is a leading contemporary art museum known for its innovative exhibitions and collections in visual, performing, and media arts. The museum is looking for an Assistant Curator to help shape and deliver its moving image programming, supporting the mission to offer transformative experiences through art. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for contemporary film and media, strong curatorial skills, and a commitment to community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Programming & Research: Collaborate with the Director and Curator to organize screenings, artist talks, and moving image events.
  • Annual Programs: Lead major recurring programs such as the British Arrows and Spirit Awards.
  • Budget Management: Develop and monitor budgets for projects, preparing financial reports and projections.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain partnerships with various communities served by the Walker.
  • Content Development: Contribute to writing program materials, press releases, and promotional content.
  • Project Administration: Manage artist contracts, bookings, and other logistical details for events and screenings.
  • Collaboration: Work with interdisciplinary teams across the museum to support institutional priorities like accessibility, DEI, and business development.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2+ years of curatorial experience in moving image programming (cinemas, festivals, galleries, or museums).
  • Knowledge: Solid understanding of contemporary moving image art and artists.
  • Skills: Proficient in budget management (Excel) and project management tools (AirTable); excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal abilities to work with artists, colleagues, and community members.
  • Public Speaking & Writing: Ability to write for different audiences and occasionally present at public events.

Job Specifications:

  • Compensation: Minimum $55,000 annually.
  • Hours: Full-time (35 hours/week), exempt (not eligible for overtime).
  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package available.
  • Relocation: No relocation assistance provided.
