Liverpool Biennial is seeking an Assistant Curator (Registrar & Logistics) to support the planning and delivery of Liverpool Biennial 2025. This role focuses on managing logistical elements such as shipping, loans, insurance, scheduling, condition checking, and artwork care, as well as contributing to the development of the Biennial’s 2025 publication.
Key Responsibilities:
Artwork Logistics & Care:
- Manage loan requests, draft agreements, and liaise with artists, lenders, galleries, and venues.
- Lead on condition checking and ensure a thorough process for documentation.
- Assist the Programme Manager in communicating installation plans and schedules to Biennial partners and venues.
- Support the installation and deinstallation of artworks and ensure exhibitions run smoothly.
- Host and act as the main contact for selected artists during their time in Liverpool.
Shipping & Insurance:
- Assist the Production Manager with organizing national and international shipments.
- Stay informed on customs laws and taxation related to artwork imports and exports.
- Manage documentation such as import permits, ensuring sustainability and best value for money in shipping and insurance processes.
- Process financial paperwork and maintain budget records for logistics and insurance.
Publications:
- Work with the Curator to manage the Liverpool Biennial 2025 publication.
- Support the Learning team on the Children’s Guide and liaise with designers and printers.
- Contract writers, coordinate licensing, and manage the editorial process.
- Ensure efficient scheduling and budget management for publications.
Finance and Administration:
- Book travel, accommodation, and visas for artists as required.
- Create detailed schedules and welcome packs for artists.
- Maintain budgets for exhibitions, process invoices, and update budget records.
- Support internal departments with contact management and event preparation.
- Assist the Marketing Team with drafting and editing artist and project information.
Miscellaneous:
- Manage interns, volunteers, and departmental work placements.
- Represent the Biennial at public events and provide tours as necessary.
- Support Liverpool Biennial’s policies on equality, diversity, and sustainability.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in contemporary art curation, production, or administration.
- Experience managing multiple projects and budgets simultaneously.
- Experience contributing to publications and organizing international artwork shipments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially MS Word and Excel.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships.
- Team player with creativity and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
Desirable:
- Experience working in an international environment.
- Knowledge of international travel, customs regulations, and UK visa procedures.
- Experience with health and safety assessments in arts venues.
- Knowledge of Liverpool City Region and Liverpool Biennial.
- Proven editorial and writing experience.
