Role Summary
The British Museum seeks a Conservation Mounter for Pictorial Art within the Collection Care Department. The successful candidate will contribute to the conservation mounting of pictorial art on paper, supporting the Museum’s exhibition and loan programs, and contributing to preventive measures to care for collections in storage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conservation mounting of pictorial art on paper.
- Preparation of objects for loans and exhibitions.
- Collaboration on projects for the care of collections in storage.
- Participation in the Museum’s outreach activities, including public speaking and writing for social media.
- Ensuring best practices in conservation and health and safety compliance.
- Supporting conservation mounting of materials outside of the specialism as needed.
About You:
- A recognized professional conservation qualification (degree level or equivalent), with a focus on the conservation of pictorial art on paper.
- Practical skills in the mounting and housing of art on paper, with a strong interest in art conservation.
- Understanding of material deterioration mechanisms and conservation theory.
- Proficiency in IT systems and good computing skills.
- Strong communication and team collaboration skills, with experience in public presentations.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and solve problems effectively.
