Salary: £75,185 per annum
Location: Bloomsbury, London
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 41 hours per week (including one hour paid lunch break)

Role Summary
The British Museum seeks a Keeper of Asia, a senior specialist to lead and manage the Department of Asia. This position requires an academic expert with distinction in a relevant field, overseeing curatorial and academic responsibilities while ensuring the collection’s safety, care, and increased public engagement. The Keeper will mentor and inspire a diverse team of curators and staff, working collaboratively with departments across the Museum and representing the institution nationally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure the safety, security, and appropriate care of the collection.
Lead the development of research and public engagement strategies.
Recruit, develop, and mentor curators and staff, promoting career growth and succession planning.
Collaborate with Museum departments to curate and document the collection.
Build partnerships and represent the Museum to academic peers, museum partners, governments, and communities.
Advocate for the Museum locally and globally.

Qualifications and Experience

Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
International recognition as a scholar in a relevant field.
Strong management and leadership experience with high-performance teams.
Proven collaboration and negotiation skills within complex organisations.
Exceptional communication and organisational abilities, diplomatic under pressure.
