Position: Associate Curator
Location: Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington, Seattle
Type: Full-Time
The Henry Art Gallery seeks an Associate Curator to contribute to its mission of advancing contemporary art through exhibitions, research, publications, and public programs. The role focuses on developing innovative curatorial projects that resonate with the gallery’s diverse audiences and foster critical engagement with contemporary issues.
Responsibilities
- Exhibition Development:
- Conceptualize and organize contemporary art exhibitions.
- Collaborate with artists, scholars, and institutions on groundbreaking projects.
- Develop accompanying publications and educational materials.
- Collection Stewardship:
- Research, interpret, and enhance the Henry’s permanent collection.
- Oversee acquisitions in line with the gallery’s mission and priorities.
- Public Engagement:
- Collaborate on public programming that complements exhibitions and collections.
- Foster relationships with local, regional, and national communities.
- Institutional Collaboration:
- Work with University of Washington faculty and students to integrate academic research into curatorial projects.
- Participate in cross-departmental initiatives within the gallery.
- Administrative Duties:
- Manage exhibition budgets and timelines.
- Supervise curatorial assistants, interns, and other team members as needed.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in art history, curatorial studies, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of curatorial experience, with a strong record of exhibitions and publications.
- Expertise in contemporary art, with an emphasis on diverse, interdisciplinary, and innovative approaches.
- Strong communication skills for writing, public speaking, and collaboration.
- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in curatorial practices.
