About the Position
Bowdoin College Museum of Art seeks a Post-Doctoral Curatorial Fellow to contribute to its mission of integrating original works of art into academic and public engagement. The Fellow will collaborate with faculty and students, organize exhibitions, and conduct scholarly research that enriches the museum’s collections.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate object-based learning in the Museum’s dedicated art-study classroom.
- Curate and organize at least one major scholarly exhibition and accompanying publication.
- Lead faculty workshops to explore curricular integration of the collection.
- Develop and execute teaching exhibitions in collaboration with students and faculty across disciplines.
- Design and deliver public programs, including lectures and symposia.
- Assist with digitization projects and support digital humanities initiatives.
- Contribute to projects advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Candidate Requirements
Education:
- A recent Ph.D. in art history, visual culture, or cultural heritage (Ph.D. must be completed by June 30, 2025).
Skills and Experience:
- Broad knowledge of art history and interest in museum careers.
- Minimum of one year museum experience with a focus on object-based learning.
- Strong research, writing, and public speaking abilities.
- Familiarity with digital humanities is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
Working Hours
- Standard administrative hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
