Paul Valéry Museum & Georges Brassens Space – Sète, France

Position Overview

The city of Sète, renowned for its vibrant cultural and artistic scene, seeks a Director of Museums to oversee the Paul Valéry Museum and the Georges Brassens Space. This role involves defining and driving the scientific and cultural policy of the museums, managing collections, and fostering collaboration with cultural stakeholders to enhance the city’s cultural identity.

Key Responsibilities

Cultural Development Policy:

  • Develop and implement strategic and scientific projects for the museums.
  • Oversee the conservation, management, and valorization of permanent collections.
  • Design and curate temporary exhibitions.
  • Establish partnerships with cultural actors in the city and region.

Cultural Equipment Management:

  • Lead and manage museum teams (35 staff members).
  • Administer budgets, including forecasting and execution.
  • Mobilize resources to ensure smooth operations, including public engagement, sponsorships, and grants.
  • Develop strategies for audience diversification and revenue generation.
  • Monitor and evaluate overall performance metrics.

Qualifications and Skills

Expertise:

  • Specialization in contemporary art and fine arts.
  • Proven experience in museum management.
  • Deep understanding of cultural policies and museography techniques.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster a positive team environment and adapt to change.
  • Proficiency in museum-specific software and administrative tools.

Work Environment and Conditions

  • Primary locations: Paul Valéry Museum and Georges Brassens Space.
  • Weekly hours: 37 hours (frequent overtime expected).
