About the Role
The Phillips Collection seeks an innovative and dynamic Chief of Education & Responsive Learning to lead its Education, Public Programs, and Library/Archives departments. Reporting directly to the Vradenburg Director & CEO, this role is central to reimagining museum education and fostering equitable, accessible learning experiences that engage audiences with the museum’s collections, exhibitions, and archives.
As part of the senior leadership team, the Chief will oversee strategic education initiatives, the rollout of a Digital Asset Management System, and collaborative cross-departmental programs that align with the museum’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Design bold educational strategies aligned with the museum’s mission, ensuring accessibility and fostering innovative learning experiences.
- Program Oversight: Lead the creation of inclusive and impactful programs for diverse audiences, from PreK-12 education to adult and senior programs, and library/archives initiatives.
- Team Management: Cultivate a culture of accountability, trust, and collaboration within the education team, empowering staff and promoting professional growth.
- Vision and Innovation: Expand the museum’s digital and in-person educational offerings and create interpretive spaces that connect art, archives, and learning.
- Collaboration and Partnerships: Build strategic relationships locally and globally to enhance the museum’s educational potential and audience reach.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced graduate degree(s) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in a leadership role, managing diverse teams, budgets, and organizational strategies.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of modern and contemporary art, curriculum development, digital learning strategies, and grant management.
