The Assistant Curator will work closely with the Geoffrey Bawa Trust’s curatorial team to manage and improve access to the Trust’s art and archival collections, both onsite and digitally, and to deliver a dynamic public programme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Chief Curator and Curator in achieving the mission and strategic goals of the Trust.
- Develop and implement public programmes, exhibitions, and publications to enhance community experience.
- Supervise the Curatorial Assistant and Curatorial and Archival Interns.
- Manage access to the Trust’s archive, fulfilling requests from the public and students.
- Oversee collections management, conservation, exhibitions, educational programming, and research activities.
- Collect data logs and documentation related to archive and collection management.
- Ensure best practices in archival and conservation work related to exhibitions, storage, art handling, and ethics.
- Assist with managing the annual Curatorial and Archival Budget and support grant applications, fundraising, and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, art history, art/museum education, or a related field; OR 2 years of experience in a curatorial or educational role at a museum or institution.
- Strong organizational, event, and program management skills with the ability to prioritize short- and long-term projects.
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English (preferably with proficiency in at least one other language).
- Ability to manage challenges and opportunities creatively in a mission-focused manner.
- Preferred:
- Master’s degree in architecture, art history, or museum studies, with an emphasis on museum education.
- Familiarity with modern and contemporary arts, current museum policies, and critical pedagogy.
- Familiarity with online engagement strategies and technology for interpretation and learning.
Eligibility: Only applicants legally eligible to work in Sri Lanka (citizens or those with work permits) are considered.
