Job Summary:
M+ Museum, located in Hong Kong, is a leading institution dedicated to modern and contemporary visual culture, focusing on visual art, design, architecture, moving images, and Hong Kong’s visual culture of the 20th and 21st centuries. As part of their team, the Associate Curator of Learning and Interpretation will collaborate closely with curators across multiple disciplines to define and communicate key messages and outcomes for exhibitions that connect with target audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop key messages and visitor outcomes for exhibitions.
  • Supervise interpretation team members, collaborating with learning and digital teams.
  • Create engaging ways to interpret stories about artworks through text, interactives, audio guides, and in-gallery experiences.
  • Ensure interpretive plans are consistent and collaborative with curators, designers, and multimedia producers.
  • Oversee in-gallery interpretation offerings, including tours and training programs for guides.
  • Build relationships with volunteer guides and the educator community.
  • Plan and lead visitor research projects to develop interpretive experiences.
  • Contribute expertise to wider curatorial and learning teams, and strategic planning across the museum.

Required Qualifications:

  • A recognized university degree in museum education, journalism, communications, creative media, cultural management, or related fields.
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in museum education, curation, communications, or digital storytelling.
  • Experience in telling compelling stories for different learning outlets.
  • Strong research skills and up-to-date knowledge of contemporary museum interpretation practices.
  • Diplomatic, collaborative team player with leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
