Founded in 1968, the Studio Museum in Harlem is a vibrant nexus for artists of African descent and for work inspired by Black culture. It serves as a dynamic space for exchanging ideas about art and society. The Museum’s Internship Program provides college undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates with hands-on experience in a professional museum setting, engaging them in meaningful projects, meetings, and workshops on contemporary museology.
Job Summary
- Work under the direction of Curatorial Assistants, engaging in various curatorial research projects.
- Conduct research and write about objects and artists in the permanent collection.
- Support the curatorial library and assist with administrative tasks for exhibition-related projects.
- Participate in deep research on mission-specific exhibitions happening globally.
- Ideal for students majoring or minoring in art history, visual culture, or related fields, with strong writing and research skills.
- Must be able to manage multiple projects independently.
Internship Details
- Season: Summer 2025
- Dates: June 2, 2025 – August 8, 2025 (10 weeks)
- Hours: 21 hours per week during the workweek (M-F); in-person work required three days per week (Tuesdays mandatory)
- Stipend: $4,200
- Benefits: MetroCards provided for transportation to and from the administrative office in Harlem
- Orientation: Mandatory in-person orientation on the morning of June 2, 2025
