The Westfälischer Kunstverein, one of Germany’s oldest art associations founded in 1831 and internationally renowned, is seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Curatorial Assistant & Press to support its programme under the new artistic direction of Theresa Roessler. This role is ideal for someone eager to develop a curatorial profile and eventually independently implement projects at the Kunstverein, contributing to the production, promotion, presentation, and mediation of contemporary art and its discourses.
Key Responsibilities
- Exhibition & Project Support:
- Assist with the conceptualization, organization, and execution of solo and group exhibitions and publications.
- Independently curate projects within the RADAR exhibition series in cooperation with the LWL Museum for Art and Culture.
- Programme Development:
- Conceptualize, organize, and implement accompanying programmes and further develop mediation offerings in collaboration with new local partners.
- Press & Public Relations:
- Research, maintain, and manage the museum’s website, social media, and press distribution list.
- Support the development and launch of the new corporate identity (CI) planned for 2025.
- Member Engagement:
- Oversee member care and the organization of member trips and events.
- General Administration:
- Provide broad administrative and organizational support to the management.
Candidate Profile
- Expertise:
- Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary art and its discourses, with experience in exhibition development and mediation.
- Demonstrated interest in working closely with artists and developing new mediation strategies.
- Experience:
- Experience in managing logistical, technical, and organizational aspects of exhibitions.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication skills in both German and English; additional language proficiency is a plus.
- High level of independence, initiative, and resilience.
- Personal Attributes:
- Passion for art and cultural engagement, with a collaborative spirit and a commitment to fostering inclusivity.
Remuneration and Working Hours
- Initial Period (1 July – 31 December 2025):
- 80% workload (32 hours per week) with a gross salary of €2,400 per month.
- From 1 January 2026:
- Full-time (40 hours per week) with a gross salary of €3,000 per month.
