Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands
Position Type: Full-Time (32-38 hours per week)

Kunstinstituut Melly is seeking a motivated and experienced Curatorial Assistant to join our team. Reporting to the Curator of Exhibitions & Art Commissions, you will play a key role in delivering exhibitions and programs that reflect our mission in meaningful ways.

About the Role

  • Curatorial Projects:

    • Assist with research, planning, and execution of exhibitions and related programs.
    • Coordinate logistics for loans, contracts, transport, and insurance.
    • Collaborate with artists and technical teams to support installations, commission fabrication, and artwork maintenance.
    • Help develop exhibition materials and contribute to grant applications.
  • Project Coordination & Administration:

    • Manage budgets, invoices, and project records.
    • Facilitate clear communication between internal teams and external partners.
    • Support the creation of grant proposals and funding reports.
  • Support for Educational and Learning Programs:

    • Assist in developing educational programs for Kunstinstituut Melly.
    • Brief visitor-facing teams to ensure effective communication of exhibition insights.
  • Hospitality:

    • Organize bookings for visiting artists and public program participants, including travel, accommodation, itineraries, per diems, and welcome packs.

Requirements

  • Qualifications & Experience:

    • A degree in art history, curatorial studies, or a related field.
    • At least two years of experience in a curatorial or programming role.
  • Skills:

    • Strong organizational, writing, and communication abilities.
    • Deep knowledge of contemporary art and a collaborative mindset.
  • Technical & Language Proficiency:

    • Proficient in budget management and digital tools (e.g., Google Drive).
    • Strong proficiency in English; knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
  • Local Engagement:

    • Must reside in or near Rotterdam to ensure active, on-site participation.
