Call for Curators “The Round” at AIR InSILo
Location: AIR InSILo, Austria
Residency Duration: 7-week residency (choose one fixed time slot between June and October 2025)
Application Deadline: 16 April 2025, 16:00 CEST
Selection Process:
- Shortlist announced by 25 April 2025; shortlisted applicants must update their submissions within four days.
- Final selection by 4 May 2025, with all results communicated by 12 May 2025.
Overview:
For the first time, AIR InSILo invites curators to critically assess the achievements of its current residency programme and develop a visionary open call for artists for its future. There is no fixed theme—the proposals should demonstrate the necessity, relevance, and significance of a future residency call, considering AIR InSILo’s concept, direction, and location. The resulting proposal must be presented as a structured project that includes a mandatory written component and a video interview.
Key Requirements:
- The call is open to curators who are interested in designing a future open call for AIR InSILo and co-curating a future round.
- Applicants should explore concepts around artist residencies, regionalism/localism, sustainability in artistic practice, relational ethics, solidarity, and socially engaged practices.
- Applicants must live in Austria or neighbouring countries to facilitate regular commuting to AIR InSILo.
Submission Requirements:
Submit a single PDF (max. 10 MB) that includes:
- A proposal letter with your conceptual direction and vision for a new open call (two versions: a short abstract of up to 1000 characters and a full version of 4000-5000 characters).
- A detailed presentation of your proposal (abstract, research questions, objectives, working methods, working plan, timetable, illustrations, drafts, sketches, links, etc.).
- A brief bio (up to 1000 characters).
- A portrait photograph (black & white, vertical, 1500 px on the longer side, with ©).
- An image illustrating your proposal (1500 px on the longer side).
- A CV (maximum 3 pages).
- A portfolio of realized projects (up to 10 pages), with images labeled with details (name, work title, year, medium, dimensions, description).
- For video/audio materials: provide URL links (Vimeo for video, SoundCloud for audio, with password and relevant details).
Additional Details:
- The working language is English; communication is also in German and Russian.
- A solidarity fee of €7 must be paid (via PayPal or as indicated on the Emergency Programme page) before submitting your application. All solidarity fee proceeds will support the AIR InSILo Emergency Programme.
- Applicants must attend a Q&A session on 10 April at 18:00 CEST (pre-registration required via email to in.silo.air@gmail.com) to clarify any questions.
Outcome:
The residency period is designed to evolve your proposal into a complete concept for a future open call for artists at AIR InSILo. Following a successful funding application round, the curator will be invited to collaborate on the future open call; if not, AIR InSILo reserves the right to use the materials under the creator’s name.
