Seattle Art Museum 

Location: Seattle, WA, USA
Position Type: Full-Time (35 hours per week, Non-Exempt)
Salary: $27.50 – $29.79 per hour
Reports To: Senior Manager of Exhibitions & Publications

SAM is seeking an experienced Exhibitions Associate to support our Curatorial division in managing 15–20 exhibitions across various stages of planning. This role involves extensive project management, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the smooth delivery of exhibitions and related publications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management:
    • Create and maintain exhibition planning boards (e.g., using Asana), schedule and coordinate milestone meetings, and facilitate internal training on planning tools.
  • Documentation & Administration:
    • Maintain exhibition documentation across digital and analog platforms; manage databases, process payments (artist fees, loan fees, etc.), and handle logistical details for exhibition installations.
  • Rights & Reproductions:
    • Obtain high-resolution images and clear reproduction permissions for promotional and educational use; manage rights requests and maintain usage guidelines.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with Marketing & Communications for website updates and assist with public program planning, including handling visitor inquiries and gallery tours.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Support various administrative tasks as needed across the Exhibitions & Publications department.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of professional work experience, preferably within an arts institution.
  • At least 2 years’ experience with image rights and copyright administration; strong knowledge of U.S. copyright law.
  • Familiarity with art and photographic terminology and exhibition planning.
  • Proficiency with digital project management tools (e.g., Asana) and database management.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced project management coursework or PMP certification is preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily indoor, in a climate-controlled office environment.
  • Approximately 80% desk-based work with 20% on-the-go; occasional extended periods of standing may be required.
  • Regular use of computers and standard office equipment is essential.
