The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is currently accepting applications for a Curatorial Assistant in the Department of Media and Performance. This role supports an upcoming presentation of an American time-based media and musical performance artist, as well as other performances, exhibitions, and acquisitions. The position also provides key organizational support for The Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Studio program, focusing on artistic practices across media and performance from the 1960s onwards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior curatorial staff with administrative duties, including meeting minutes, presentations, interoffice communications, and scheduling.
- Provide logistical and conceptual support for programming in The Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Studio, including press releases, digital content, and scholarly research.
- Support research and preparation for publications, acquisitions, online content, loans, and curatorial inquiries.
- Coordinate exhibition logistics, including loans, catalog preparation, media and performance tech specifications, and interpretive materials.
- Assist with online presentation of media and performance on MoMA’s digital platforms.
- Communicate with artists and collaborators to support the selection and display of artworks and performances.
- Research, catalog, and archive the department’s acquisitions, collection, and program activities.
- Conduct daily inspections of works on view and assist with performance production.
- Stay informed about contemporary artistic and exhibition activities in media and performance.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in art history or a related field with relevant experience in media and performance history.
- Experience supporting live and time-based works and collaborating with artists.
- Strong organizational, research, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Digital fluency and experience delivering online projects.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in a language other than English is preferred.
