Se busca comisario 2026 – Madrid, Spain

Application Deadline: May 16, 2025, at 12:00 PM (Madrid time).

The Community of Madrid has launched the XVII edition of Se busca comisario, an open call to select the best curatorial project to be developed at the Sala de Arte Joven in 2026. This initiative aims to support young curators and promote innovative exhibition proposals that reflect contemporary artistic creation in Madrid.

Eligibility

  • Open to Spanish and foreign curators residing in the Community of Madrid, either individually or as a collective.
  • Applicants must be under 35 years old at the application deadline. If applying as a collective, at least 50% of the members must meet this requirement.
  • Curators cannot participate as exhibiting artists.
  • The project should include works by artists, preferably under 35, who live, work, or exhibit in Madrid.
  • Projects must not include artists, mediators, or educators who participated in the program in the last two editions (2024 and 2025).
  • Previous winners of Se busca comisario cannot apply.

Budget

  • Total funding: €50,000 (including taxes).
  • Curatorial fee: €5,000 per selected curator, payable upon the exhibition opening.
  • Exhibition production and activities budget: €45,000, covering artists’ fees, production costs, artwork transport and insurance, travel expenses, and promotional materials.

Application Requirements

  • Completed application form.
  • Artistic CV (max. 2 pages).
  • Copy of ID or residency document.
  • Project dossier (PDF, max. 4MB), including:
    • Project title and concept (max. 5 pages).
    • List of participating artists with CVs.
    • Technical specifications, images, and sketches.
    • Budget breakdown (including taxes).
    • Activity schedule.
    • Any additional supporting materials.
