Salary: Up to £35,000/year, depending on experience

The Design Museum is seeking a Gallery Manager to lead its technician team in delivering and maintaining high-quality exhibitions and displays. The role includes managing all technical aspects of exhibition delivery and maintenance, from installation and de-rigging to object care and gallery upkeep. The Gallery Manager will also oversee workshop operations and liaise with internal departments and external partners to ensure the successful execution of exhibition projects.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading, mentoring, and scheduling the gallery technician team
Managing installations, object movements, and on-site logistics
Supporting the development and maintenance of exhibitions and displays
Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and best practices
Overseeing the workshops and exhibition stores, including reuse protocols for materials

Requirements:

Proven technical skills (carpentry, framing, use of tools)
Fine art handling experience and object care knowledge
Experience managing technicians and workshops
Strong communication and time management skills
Understanding of sustainability in exhibition production
Willingness to occasionally travel internationally
Commitment to high-quality standards and collaborative work
