The Curatorial Assistant supports the Chief Curator at BAMPFA in all phases of exhibition planning and execution. This includes research, label writing, logistics, administrative duties, and artist coordination. The role involves maintaining databases, managing budgets, processing payments, and coordinating travel and loan agreements. The assistant also drafts and edits exhibition materials and supports communications, social media, and donor-related content.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate exhibitions, tracking art loans and image rights.
- Maintain multi-year exhibition calendar and assist in layout planning.
- Write/edit labels, brochures, and catalogues; support social media and website updates.
- Manage correspondence with artists, lenders, and institutions.
- Support public and private exhibition tours.
- Use specialized software (Collection Space, FileMaker) for research and asset management.
- Assist with budgeting, vendor payments, and reimbursements.
- Prepare materials for grant proposals and donor engagement.
Candidate Profile
- BA in Art History or related field plus 1 year curatorial experience (or equivalent combination).
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Mac OS, MS Office, Google Drive.
- Knowledge of museum practices and broad art historical topics.
- Familiarity with the international art world is preferred.
